Chapter 1212 Graduate Representatives
Chapter 1212 Graduate Representatives
After finishing his phone call with his parents, Su Xing called his grandparents as well.
Grandma Su answered the phone, "Hello? Xiaoxing?"
"Milk..." Su Xing's voice was soft and sweet, with a slight nasal tone.
The old lady sensed something was wrong and asked worriedly, "What's wrong? Did you quarrel with Xiao He?"
Upon hearing his wife's words, Grandpa Su quickly came over.
"No, no," Su Xing quickly denied, adding, "My parents just called me..."
"Oh..." The elderly couple from the Su family immediately understood. The old lady Su said, "Your parents have told you about the house?"
"Hmm..." Su Xing sniffed and said, "They said..."
Grandpa Su leaned closer to the microphone and interjected, "Let's take our time choosing, and pick a house that suits your taste."
Su Xing said, "Actually, I have my own money and I will buy my own house, so you don't need to worry about it."
She's willing to support her parents, and she'll probably accept some of their money, but she doesn't really want to use her grandparents' money.
After all, the tea factory is mostly managed by her uncle, and houses in Beijing are not cheap. Her grandparents are giving her so much money; will her uncle and aunt have any objections?
Grandma Su said, "Your money is your money. We are willing to give it to you because it is our way of showing our appreciation. Why are you being so polite with your grandparents?"
Grandpa Su probably guessed what his eldest granddaughter was worried about.
He took the phone from his wife and said to her, "Hey, Xiaoxing, let me tell you, your grandma and I have money. We don't favor anyone. We'll divide our savings among all of you kids. Xiaokai and your aunt's sons Xiaoxuan and Xiaoyang will all get some. I've already told your uncle and your dad. You can keep your share."
Grandma Su squeezed in again and said, "It's our own money, so we should be the ones to decide how to divide it."
The two elderly people spent a long time persuading their eldest granddaughter, repeatedly telling her that she should accept the money and not feel guilty.
In the end, Su Xing was persuaded.
Su Xing's eyes welled up with tears again. "Grandpa and Grandma, thank you..."
"Oh dear, child, why are you thanking us..."
After chatting for a while longer, the three of them ended the call.
At this moment, He Xu came over to help Su Xing.
As soon as he entered Su Xing's office, he noticed that his girlfriend's eyes were red.
He Xu quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
Su Xing said, "Nothing happened to me..."
When she spoke, her voice was noticeably slightly hoarse.
He Xu became even more nervous, "You still say nothing's wrong? What's wrong with your eyes and throat? What happened?"
Su Xing didn't intend to hide it from her boyfriend. She said, "I just spoke with my parents and my grandparents on the phone."
"And then?" He Xu pressed, "Did something happen at home?"
Su Xing said, "No, nothing's wrong at home, it's just that... my parents and grandparents are planning to buy me a house in Beijing."
“Buying a house…” He Xu breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately realized what was going on.
It's not hard to guess what the elders in the Su family were thinking: they were buying premarital property for Su Xing, in case she suffered any grievances in the future.
He believed that he would never let his girlfriend suffer, and that his family members were open-minded and reasonable and would not make things difficult for her.
However, he could understand the Su family's concern for Su Xing.
Even if they distrust him and his family, he understands their worries and concerns.
He naturally wouldn't interfere with his girlfriend's family's decision to buy her a premarital property.
He Xu smiled and said, "That's a good thing. Have you discussed with them where you want to buy?"
"Not yet," Su Xing said. "They told me to check out the available properties in various places first, and if I find any that I like, I'll go take a look when I have time."
He Xu said, "Don't worry, I'll ask around for you later."
Su Xing smiled and said, "Okay~"
Buying a house isn't like buying cabbage; it's not something you can just buy on a whim. You have to take your time to choose and look at different options. It's normal to spend several months or even a year and a half looking.
It's exam season at Kyoto University now, and winter break will start after the exams.
It's highly unlikely that this house will be finalized before the end of the year.
The two chatted for a few minutes, and then He Xu spent some more time with his girlfriend while she worked.
Around 10 o'clock, Su Xing turned off the computer.
The two packed their things and left the studio.
……
1 month 12 day.
It was the day of Dr. He Xu's graduation ceremony.
Su Xing was somewhat disappointed that their graduation ceremony was only open to the graduates themselves, and she was unable to attend.
Moreover, she had an exam that day.
In the morning, He Xu first took his girlfriend to Peking University.
Before the two parted ways at the school gate, Su Xing turned around and straightened her boyfriend's collar.
"Starting today, you will officially be leaving campus. Good luck, Mr. He!"
He Xu smiled at his girlfriend, "Yes, after today, I'll be a member of the working world. Su, good luck on your exam."
"Okay, Teacher He~"
He Xu looked up and gently pinched her nose. "Go inside quickly."
Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, Su Xing stood on tiptoe and gave her boyfriend a quick kiss on the cheek. "Bye~"
She turned around and walked briskly into the school gate.
He Xu watched his girlfriend enter Peking University, and then hurried to Beihang University to attend her graduation ceremony.
The ceremony began at 9:00 a.m.
The vice dean in charge of postgraduate affairs delivered the opening remarks, introducing the university leaders, members of the degree evaluation committee, faculty representatives, and all doctoral graduates attending the ceremony.
Then everyone stood up and sang the National Anthem of the People's Republic of China. After the anthem ended, everyone took their seats.
Next came the speeches by some leaders, mainly reviewing achievements and offering words of encouragement.
For example, reviewing the college's annual research and education achievements, and affirming the breakthroughs and contributions of doctoral graduates in the academic field.
From the perspective of school development, doctoral graduates are encouraged to integrate their personal ideals into national strategies and continue to cultivate expertise in fields such as aerospace and information.
More than half an hour later, the awards ceremony began.
The Director of the Graduate Affairs Office of the College read out the decision to commend outstanding doctoral graduates and recipients of outstanding doctoral dissertations in 2015.
The attending guests presented the award-winning graduates with certificates of honor and medals in turn, and the award-winning representatives went on stage to receive their awards and take group photos.
The degree conferment ceremony then officially began.
Doctoral graduates, dressed in academic gowns, went up on stage in order, where university leaders and representatives of the degree evaluation committee performed the "tassel-turning and cap-adjusting" ceremony for them.
After the ceremony, representatives of the supervisors took the stage to speak, sharing their academic expectations for the doctoral graduates based on their research and teaching experience, and urging them to maintain a rigorous academic attitude and stay true to their original aspirations in their future positions.
Next, a representative of the doctoral graduates gave a speech.
He Xu was the graduate representative.
He stood on the stage, looking down at the school leaders, professors, and students below, and slowly began to speak:
"Respected leaders and teachers, dear students: Hello everyone!"
I am He Xu, a doctoral graduate in Optical Engineering. Today, I stand here on behalf of all graduates, filled with both a look back on my years of study and heartfelt gratitude to the school and the college.
I still remember when I first entered Beihang University, the first time I touched the sophisticated laser interferometer in the Optoelectronic Engineering Building, and the first time I stayed up late in my supervisor's lab repeatedly adjusting an optical path calibration.
Those days of searching for patterns in spectral analysis data and breaking through bottlenecks in optical system design are the essence of Beihang University's spirit of "serving the country through aerospace," injecting the strongest confidence into our academic exploration.
We are grateful to the university for providing us with a complete platform from basic research to engineering practice, from the advanced equipment in the national key laboratory to the intellectual exchange at interdisciplinary seminars, which allows us to continuously cultivate in the field of optical engineering and write our papers at the forefront of scientific research in our country.
I would also like to thank my supervisor, who guided me when I faced experimental bottlenecks and meticulously crafted my thesis. He not only taught us how to overcome technical difficulties, but also instilled in us the scientific research attitude of "rigorous scholarship and pursuit of excellence." This teaching by example is a treasure that will benefit us for a lifetime.
Looking back over the past few years, we have spent countless nights calibrating a tiny light spot, and repeatedly overturned and restarted to verify a new optical model. But it is this perseverance in tackling tough challenges that has enabled us to achieve our own breakthroughs in photoelectric detection, quantum optics, and other fields.
I think this is the quality that Beihang University has given us: we must have academic ideals that look up at the stars, and we must also have a down-to-earth scientific research responsibility!
Today, we are about to embark on our new posts carrying the mark of "Beihang PhDs". Please rest assured, the university and college, that we will continue to delve into the field of optics in the future. Whether we are engaged in tackling key technical challenges in the field of aerospace information or exploring the unknown boundaries of basic optics on the front line of scientific research, we will always uphold our original aspiration of "building instruments for the country" and shoulder the responsibilities of scientific researchers in the new era.
Finally, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude once again to the university, the college, and every mentor who nurtured us! I wish Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics continued success and brilliance, and I wish our college continued leadership and ever-increasing achievements in the field of instrument science and optics! I also wish my dear students a smooth road ahead and a bright future!
After finishing his speech, He Xu bowed deeply to the audience and said, "Thank you everyone!"
