Chapter 292 They've got the dorm supervisor completely bewildered.
Lin Feng snapped out of his reverie, his gaze shifting from Tang Xiaofu to his younger sister, Tang Xiaorui, and asked gently, "Hmm? What's wrong?"
Tang Xiaorui blinked and teased in a lighthearted tone:
"What's wrong? Is my sister so beautiful today that you're stunned?"
Her words were joking, but her gaze secretly swept over Lin Feng's expression, trying to find some trace of reality in that gentle ripple.
These words caught Tang Xiaofu off guard.
A crack appeared in her previously composed expression, and her ears turned a visibly red.
She shifted her gaze somewhat awkwardly, subconsciously raising her hand to straighten her already impeccably tailored collar, and softly chided:
"Xiaorui, don't talk nonsense!"
Lin Feng immediately realized the sensitivity of this joke.
After all, he had just had a long talk about life with Tang Xiaorui in his dream, and he absolutely could not leave her with any misunderstanding that he had improper thoughts about her sister.
"Ah? No, no," he quickly waved his hand, a simple, honest smile on his face, while pointing to the night sky behind Tang Xiaofu.
"I just... saw a flash in the sky over there, a shooting star streaked across the sky."
He scratched his head. "I thought I could make a wish, but it just vanished in a flash!"
After hearing Lin Feng's explanation, the last trace of doubt in Tang Xiaorui's eyes dissipated like smoke, and her voice was filled with a relaxed playfulness:
"Alright, alright, we didn't see a shooting star, but my sister got so nervous her face turned bright red! Next time I'll go watch one with you, and we can make a wish together!"
Tang Xiaofu was both embarrassed and ashamed. She raised her hand and lightly tapped Tang Xiaorui's arm: "Don't talk nonsense, I didn't..."
........................
The four continued walking slowly under the moonlight, and soon arrived at the staff dormitory area of the park.
The three of them first escorted Dr. Elena to the girls' dormitory building. Tang Xiaofu said softly:
"Dr. Elena, thank you for your hard work today."
Elena gently shook her head, a genuine smile playing in her eyes:
"This has never been a hardship for me; on the contrary, it has been a precious reward—allowing me to witness the miracles of the field of psychology firsthand. I am the one who should be saying thank you."
After watching Elena walk into the dormitory building, the three of them turned around and walked towards the boys' dormitory across the street.
The lobby of the boys' dormitory was still dimly lit, with an old table lamp shining behind the dormitory manager's window.
The short, hunched dormitory supervisor was still tucked into his large wooden chair, his hands, as thick as old tree roots, flipping through a storybook. An enamel mug sat on the corner of the table, and a faint, sweet and pungent herbal scent wafted through the hallway.
The moment Lin Feng pushed open the door, the old man raised his head.
In the shadows behind the small round sunglasses, the previously scattered, flickering dark red lights suddenly brightened, as if startled by something, even letting out a very soft "Huh?"
He clearly hadn't expected that the two beloved daughters of the kindergarten director would be the ones following Lin Feng in.
Tang Xiaofu remained composed, standing half a step to Lin Feng's side with a calm expression.
Tang Xiaorui, on the other hand, was different. Her fingertips were still unconsciously tugging at Lin Feng's sleeve, her body slightly pressed against him, and the reluctance in her eyes was almost overflowing.
She pursed her lips, wanting to say something, but when she caught sight of her older sister beside her, she forced herself to stop. Instead, she tiptoed closer to Lin Feng's ear and whispered:
"Go back and get some sleep. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
Lin Feng patted Tang Xiaorui's arm, whispered "Okay," and then turned to nod at Tang Xiaofu.
"Please have Xiaorui and I bring me back. Go back and rest now."
Tang Xiaofu gave a soft "hmm" and tugged at Tang Xiaorui, who still wanted to stick close to her.
"Let's go, don't keep him from resting."
Tang Xiaorui reluctantly followed her sister out of the hall, turning back every few steps.
Only Lin Feng and the dormitory supervisor remained in the lobby. A few seconds of silence followed before the supervisor slowly put down his storybook, picked up an enamel mug from the corner of the table, took a sip, and gestured with his chin towards Lin Feng:
"Hey kid from 303, not bad!"
Lin Feng smiled and stepped forward, greeting him politely as before: "Grandpa, you're still not resting?"
"What are you taking a break for? You've really opened your eyes today!" The old man put down his enamel cup, tapped the edge of the table heavily with his thick fingers, making a "thump thump" sound, and the red dot behind his sunglasses was burning hot.
"When the deputy director brought you back last time, I had a feeling something was going to happen. And today, look what's happened—both sisters are here!"
"You can see what that little brat is thinking from a mile away; she's so clingy and can't hide it at all!"
As he spoke, he suddenly straightened up slightly in his chair, gave Lin Feng a thumbs-up, his knuckles bulging out with extra force:
"Awesome! You've won over both of the principal's precious darlings!"
Lin Feng's forehead creased with annoyance upon hearing this: "You're joking, sir."
"I'm not joking," the old man waved his hand. "With these eyes of mine, after all these years, what kind of thoughts can't I see?"
"You're quite something, kid!" He paused, then shook his head with interest.
"But I'm starting to wonder, from now on, which girl's wedding candy should I be eating?"
"They're both good girls, hard to guess, really hard to guess."
Lin Feng's eyes sparkled with a smile as he followed up, "Then you'll have to wait. If you're sure you'll be there, I'll treat you to double portions first."
"Alright! I'll remember that!" The old man chuckled, his voice hoarse but hearty, and waved his hand to urge him on.
"Go upstairs quickly! Like I said, once you lie down at night, don't get up easily. The dormitory is damp, so don't catch a cold."
These words were exactly the same as last time, yet they made Lin Feng feel slightly uneasy again. He nodded in agreement:
"Thank you for reminding me, Uncle. I'll remember."
As I turned to walk towards the stairs, I could still hear the old man gently tapping his enamel cup behind me, mixed with a few ambiguous "hoho" laughs, which were particularly clear in the dimly lit hallway.
Moonlight slanted in through the window at the top of the stairs, falling beside Lin Feng's feet. He raised his hand to touch his chin, a hint of helplessness and amusement flashing in his eyes—
This dormitory supervisor is truly a kind-hearted person.
........................
At 10:40 p.m., Lin Feng pushed open the door to dormitory 303.
The only light in the room was from a small table lamp on Wasim's desk, casting a dim, yellowish glow.
The tall Wasim was hunched over the table, his brow furrowed, a pen in his hand, scribbling furiously on an open leather notebook.
Upon hearing the door open, Vassim turned around abruptly. The seriousness on his face eased slightly when he saw Lin Feng, but the bloodshot eyes were still clearly visible.
"Brother Lin Feng, you're back!"
He put down his pen, turned to Lin Feng, and quickly scanned him up and down with concern. "How is it? Has Miss Tang's... 'second personality' problem been resolved?"
Lin Feng closed the door behind him, then raised his hand and gave Wasim a clean and crisp "OK" sign.
"Phew—" Wasim let out a long sigh of relief. "Amazing! Absolutely amazing! I knew you could do it!"
He praised sincerely, then pointed to Lin Feng's somewhat pale face.
"You must be exhausted. Hurry up and wash up, get ready to rest. It's almost time."
Lin Feng nodded, took off his coat and hung it up, picked up a washbasin and towel, and headed towards the public restroom outside the dormitory...
