Chapter 272: I’m Very Happy
"Xixi, it’s getting late. You should get some sleep."
Jin Ling had been inside, coaxing the cubs to sleep, but he had heard the commotion outside.
Qiao Xixi hadn’t had a moment to breathe all day, but she wasn’t tired in the slightest now that she knew Feili and his people had arrived.
"I’m not sleepy. Stay out here with me in the breeze for a bit."
Jin Ling came up behind her and gently pulled her into his arms. He rested his chin on the crown of her head and inhaled her faint, sweet scent. He felt so comfortable it was as if every pore on his body was opening up in relaxation.
"What are you thinking about?"
Qiao Xixi leaned back lazily against him, feeling the strong, vigorous beat of his heart. It gave her an indescribable sense of peace.
"This afternoon, I was still worrying about how we were going to support all the cubs and elderly beastmen in the tribe. I was afraid we didn’t have enough people. But then, Feili Father Beast arrived with the beastmen from the Silver Tribe."
She turned to face him, tilting her head up slightly. Her azure eyes, filled with joyous laughter, gazed up at him.
"So, I’m very happy."
Jin Ling lowered his gaze to her blossoming smile, and his gilt-gold eyes deepened. The large hand on her waist felt like a searing brand, so hot that Qiao Xixi instinctively tried to shy away, but he quickly pulled her back.
"Mm, I’m happy too. Xixi, I’ve missed you so much." His low, husky voice was like a feather, teasing at her heart.
He suddenly swept her up into his arms and kissed the corner of her upturned lips.
Qiao Xixi let out a soft cry, wrapping her arms around his neck and letting him deepen the kiss.
Jin Ling scooped her up, turned into another stone room, and pinned her against the door. He pressed his forehead to hers, his voice tinged with a hint of grievance and accusation.
"Back on the island, you were covered in their scents."
Qiao Xixi gazed into his eyes, now veiled with a thin layer of mist, and her heart softened. ’He looks just like the cubs when they’re trying to be cute with me,’ she thought.
She wrapped her legs around his firm, powerful waist and gave his lips a mischievous lick.
"In that case... I’ll make it up to you tonight."
In an instant, his gilt-gold pupils were flooded with desire. No longer holding back, he held her steady with both hands and kissed her fiercely...
The night was alluring.
And that allure lasted the entire night.
This time, it was surprisingly Jin Ling who surrendered first.
Her fingertips traced the faint, well-defined lines of his V-taper.
Jin Ling watched her with deep, intense eyes, his lips slightly parted as he panted softly.
"Xixi..."
Qiao Xixi’s fingertips stilled. She slowly leaned over him, the corners of her eyes crinkling with playful delight. "Was tonight enough for you?"
Jin Ling captured her hand and pulled it to his chest. "What do you think, Xixi?"
Qiao Xixi chuckled, planting a soft kiss on the corner of his mouth. "If I said it wasn’t enough... could you still...?"
Before she could finish, the world spun, and she found herself pinned beneath him. "Then I’ll keep going until you’ve had enough!"
What Qiao Xixi didn’t know was that back in her space, the tender shoot in the Spiritual Spring had suddenly sprouted an even longer section.
The activated fields in her space were now covered in a faint white light. The Grass Fruits and purple earth fruits planted there began to grow taller at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"An’an, Female Mother and Father Beast Jin Ling aren’t awake yet. Let’s wait a little longer before we go in, okay?"
The voices outside the door stirred Qiao Xixi from her sleep, and she opened her eyes.
They had been a bit too indulgent last night, not falling asleep until just before dawn.
She sat up and glanced at Jin Ling, who was still sleeping soundly beside her.
’Strange. Why has Jin Ling been waking up later and later these past two days?’
’He’s a high-ranking beastman who can fight other beastmen all night without even blinking!’
Still, Qiao Xixi didn’t wake him, deciding to let him sleep in.
She got up, washed her face, and left the stone room.
Xiya was just about to take the tiger cub out to play when she heard Qiao Xixi open the door behind them.
"Female Mother, you’re awake."
"Mhm. Are you hungry? Female Mother will go make you all some breakfast."
Qiao Xixi took the tiger cub from Xiya’s arms. Looking down from the veranda, she saw that Qiao Lie and the others were already up and moving stones out of the courtyard.
The tiger cub lunged into Qiao Xixi’s embrace, grabbed a handful of her hair, and tried to stuff it into his mouth.
Qiao Xixi quickly stopped him.
"An’an, Female Mother has told you before, hair is not for eating."
"There’s no need, Female Mother. Father Beast Sangze is already making breakfast."
"What about the other Father Beasts? Are they all back?"
"Father Beast Sunxiao came back once, but he left again when he saw you were still sleeping. He said he was going hunting with the beastmen from the Silver Tribe. Father Beast Feiyan is outside the inner city, leading a lot of the adult males in repairing the tribe’s houses."
Qiao Xixi remembered she had promised to go outside the inner city this morning, so she didn’t dare delay. She led Xiya and the others downstairs, planning to grab a quick bite before heading out.
"Female Mother." The cubs all turned to look at her when they saw she was awake.
"I’ll go see if breakfast is ready."
Hearing her voice, Sangze came out of the kitchen. "Xixi, breakfast is ready."
Qiao Xixi ushered the cubs over to eat.
"Where are Qiao Lie, Qiao Ang, and Qiaoqiao?"
"Father Beast Feiyan took them to see Grandfather Feili first thing this morning. They said they wouldn’t be back until later."
After Qiao Xixi and the cubs finished eating, she carried the tiger cub upstairs. Just as she was about to open the door to their room, Jin Ling walked out.
"Jin Ling, you’re awake."
Jin Ling had an apologetic look on his face. "I slept in too late." ’He also didn’t know what was wrong. The last two times he’d slept with Xixi, he’d fallen into such a deep sleep that he’d lost all of his usual vigilance.’
Qiao Xixi gave him a playful wink. "You must have been exhausted last night. I’m heading outside the inner city with Sangze in a little while, so I’m leaving the cubs in your care."
Jin Ling took the tiger cub from her and nodded. "Okay. Be careful."
"Okay."
After planting a kiss on the tiger cub’s soft, chubby cheek, Qiao Xixi turned and went downstairs.
"The tribe isn’t fully rebuilt yet, so if you want to go anywhere, you have to tell Father Beast Jin Ling beforehand, understand?"
The cubs obediently replied, "We know, Female Mother."
Qiao Xixi and Sangze started walking. Just as their figures disappeared from the cubs’ line of sight, Sangze suddenly quickened his pace and wrapped his arms around Qiao Xixi from behind.
But his movements were so rushed that he nearly knocked her to the ground.
"Xixi, careful!"
Thankfully, his reflexes were quick, and he managed to pull Xixi securely into his arms.
Qiao Xixi was taken aback, staring at him in astonishment.
"Sangze, what’s wrong? Did you forget something?"
Sangze stared at her red lips as they moved, finding them as tempting as ripe, red berries.
He subconsciously gulped, his Adam’s apple bobbing as his breathing grew heavy.
Qiao Xixi was an experienced woman, and she knew exactly what Sangze’s reaction meant.
Although he was like two different people during the day versus the night, the daytime Sangze was so innocent and pure that she intentionally avoided certain things with him. Even a hug like this was extremely rare.
"Xixi, I... I..."
Before he could get the words out, Sangze’s face flushed red all the way to his neck. Fortunately, his dark skin made it hard to see.
But his fluffy ears, perked high and twitching, told Qiao Xixi everything she needed to know.
She prompted him softly, "Sangze, what is it you want to say to me?"
