Chapter 462: Northern Domain War Report, The Divine Mosquito’s Miraculous -
The space inside the base was far larger than Chu Sheng had imagined from the outside.
It was practically a massive city built underground.
All sorts of high-tech equipment and levitating vehicles that Chu Sheng didn’t recognize zipped through wide, orderly tunnels.
At the same time, the architectural style retained many elements of traditional Great Xia design. Upturned eaves, intricate bracket sets, and ornate carvings were a common sight.
This blend of technology and tradition, rather than seeming out of place, created a solemn and imposing atmosphere.
Chu Sheng followed Luo Zhan and the others, winding and turning through the base.
He was still thinking about the two stone lions he had seen at the entrance.
’That thing... it’s definitely not just for decoration.’
Even with his current Ninth Grade Mental Power, he could feel a faint pressure emanating from them.
It felt as if he was being watched by something terrifying.
’Looks like this Military Department headquarters has quite a few treasures hidden away.’
As soon as they stepped out of the portal, two squads of fully armed soldiers approached them.
The lead officer saluted Luo Zhan and the others before beginning an extremely detailed identity verification process.
It wasn’t just checking their identity Tokens; they also had to undergo iris scans, Mental Power fluctuation comparisons, and even a rapid genetic sequence analysis.
The whole procedure was incredibly tedious.
Chu Sheng wasn’t exempt either.
A device scanned him for a long time, repeatedly comparing his various data points with the information on file. Only after confirming there were no discrepancies was he allowed to pass.
The officer explained with a grim face that the base had the highest level of security protocols, which forbade any unrecorded life form from entering.
Not even a fly.
Chu Sheng scoffed internally.
’Am I some common fly? How clueless.’
...
Soon, led by an attendant, they arrived before a massive, circular conference room.
The heavy door, forged from some unknown metal, was covered in complex Array patterns and gave off an intimidating, keep-out aura.
Two guards stood at the entrance.
They stood as still as statues, but when Chu Sheng took a second look at them, his heart skipped a beat.
’The auras of these two are as solid as mountains, completely unfathomable.’
’They’re definitely heavy hitters!’
’And the kind who have killed countless people, who have climbed out from a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.’
’Damn, this Military Department headquarters is full of crouching tigers and hidden dragons.’
The attendant leading them went forward to speak with the guards.
After another round of confirming the identities of Luo Zhan’s group, the heavy metal door slid open silently to either side.
Inside, the room was already full.
It was an enormous, ring-shaped conference room, its decor simple and solemn.
Over a dozen high-ranking officers from the Military Department, their shoulders adorned with general’s stars, sat bolt upright. Each one exuded an aura of iron-willed ruthlessness.
Any one of these individuals was a titan in their own right, the kind of person who could make Great Xia tremble with a stomp of their foot.
Chu Sheng noticed a woman sitting to the left of the main seat.
She looked to be under thirty and wasn’t wearing a uniform, just plain civilian clothes. Yet she sat there calmly, and the surrounding generals seemed to think nothing of it.
’This woman is no simple character.’
And in the main seat at the very center sat an old man with graying hair, his back as straight as a ramrod.
He wore a dark military uniform with no rank insignias. His face was etched with the lines of time, but his eyes were as sharp as a falcon’s, as if they could see right through a person’s heart.
This man was none other than the supreme commander of the Great Xia Military Department, Minister Long Zhanguo.
He had just ended an off-site visit yesterday and returned to the base on an urgent summons.
The moment Luo Zhan and his group entered, they all saluted Long Zhanguo in the main seat.
"Have a seat."
Long Zhanguo’s voice wasn’t loud, but it carried an undeniable authority.
Luo Zhan and the others each found their seats.
Chu Sheng flew over as well and discovered there was an empty seat next to Luo Zhan.
On the table in front of the seat was a nameplate, upon which two large words were imprinted with Mental Power: Divine Mosquito.
Heh!
Chu Sheng was amused.
’I, Lord Mosquito, actually have my own dedicated seat? This treatment is pretty good.’
Without ceremony, he flew over and landed on the smooth tabletop.
A small tablet terminal had even been thoughtfully prepared for him on the table.
"Luo Zhan."
Long Zhanguo spoke. "Give us a detailed report on the situation in the Northern Domain."
"Yes, sir!"
Luo Zhan stood up and began to recount the entire course of the great battle in the Northern Domain from beginning to end.
He added no embellishments and vented no personal emotions, simply stating the facts in a calm, almost rigid tone.
When he reported how Chu Sheng had single-handedly broken into the Alien Race’s Space channel to obtain intelligence, barely making it back alive with the crucial information, everyone in the conference room subconsciously turned their gaze to the little mosquito resting on the table.
Even the woman who had remained expressionless the whole time gave Chu Sheng a second glance.
When Luo Zhan reported that due to Qin Zhen’s arbitrary decision and his distrust of the Divine Mosquito’s intelligence, the three reinforcement armies had been recalled—causing them to miss the optimal window for defense and leading to the near-collapse of the Northern Domain’s defensive line in the Early Stage—Long Zhanguo’s sharp gaze swept over to Qin Zhen, who was seated at the far end of the table.
"Qin Zhen, is what he said true?"
Qin Zhen’s body stiffened for a moment before he stood up, clenching his jaw.
He knew there was no escaping this today.
"Minister, it is true."
"However, I do not believe my judgment was wrong!"
Qin Zhen’s voice was a little hoarse, but it still held a trace of stubbornness.
"Given the circumstances at the time, I couldn’t just consider the safety of the Northern Domain. I couldn’t, and absolutely would not, gamble such a critical decision on intelligence brought back by a single Contracted Beast that could not be one hundred percent verified!"
"From a strategic perspective, from a risk-management perspective, my choice was the only correct one at the time!"
"You weren’t wrong?"
Luo Zhan couldn’t hold back any longer. He spun around, his bloodshot eyes glaring at Qin Zhen.
"Because of your so-called ’correct choice,’ tens of thousands of my Northern Domain soldiers died needlessly on the first line of defense! They didn’t have to die!"
"You said the Divine Mosquito couldn’t be trusted? What about now? If the Divine Mosquito hadn’t risked its life to bring back reinforcements! If the Divine Mosquito hadn’t summoned the insect swarm to turn the tide of battle! The Northern Domain would have long since become a slaughterhouse for the Alien Race! Neither you nor I would be sitting here today!"
Luo Zhan’s voice was filled with anguish, overflowing with endless grief and rage.
Qin Zhen’s face turned pale from his shouting. His lips moved, but he couldn’t utter a single word.
It was true.
He could find ten thousand rationalizations for his decision.
But the outcome was irrefutable.
He was wrong. Horribly wrong.
"Hmph."
From the main seat, Long Zhanguo, his expression grim, spoke in a calm tone:
"Qin Zhen, effective immediately, you are stripped of your position as Deputy Minister of the Military Department and temporarily removed from the high command. As for the rest, it will be handled separately after this meeting."
Qin Zhen’s body swayed, and he finally slumped back into his seat without a word.
"Luo Zhan, you may continue."
Luo Zhan took a deep breath, suppressed his emotions, and continued his report.
...
When Luo Zhan’s final word fell, the entire conference room sank into a long silence.
It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Everyone present was deeply shaken by the brutality of the battle, its twists and turns, and the miraculous reversal in the end.
Nearly half of the entire Northern Domain campaign was a Chapter of miracles written by this seemingly ordinary mosquito!
After a long while.
Long Zhanguo slowly rose from the main seat.
He scanned the room, his gaze passing over the faces of Luo Zhan, Li Zhantian, and the others before finally resting on Chu Sheng.
"You have all endured great hardship."
"You, and all the soldiers in this battle, are Great Xia’s finest warriors."
