Chapter 203 The Ultimate Goal
Chapter 203 The Ultimate Goal
Zhou Wangyue pointed to Blue Star and said, "No matter how good the stealth coating is, the psionic energy fluctuations of the engine cannot be hidden when flying within the atmosphere."
"The mental power of a sixth-tier beast king can cover the entire stratosphere. If you fly over from the sky, you will be like a lamp in the mental perception of the Sirius King."
"But space is different. The aliens don't have satellites, and they've never even built rockets."
"Over the past fifty years, humanity has launched thousands of satellites into the sky, and they haven't been able to stop a single one. No matter how strong your mental power is, you can't explore into the vacuum."
"We fly over their heads, and they can't see us at all."
Song Chen thought for a moment: "So this is for the sake of secrecy?"
"Yes."
"Intelligence is the only area where humans can completely overwhelm the alien beasts. Communication, reconnaissance, and navigation all take place in space. Without satellites, even phone calls between base cities are impossible. This is one of humanity's trump cards."
After thinking for a moment, Song Chen asked another question: "Do humans currently possess the capability for interstellar travel?"
Zhou Wangyue shook his head, picked up the teacup and put it down again.
"Flying within the solar system is fine. We've been to the moon, and a few people have been to Mars. We can also fly to Jupiter and Neptune, but we can't fly any further."
"The universe is too big. Just to fly out of the solar system, you would have to travel one light-year, or 950 billion kilometers."
"Even if human spaceships flew for a thousand years, they still couldn't reach that place."
"Once you leave the solar system, it's true eternal night; there's nothing there but cold."
After speaking, Zhou Wangyue paused for a moment before continuing, "The psionic era has given us tremendous power, but in the face of the universe, we are still as insignificant as we are."
Song Chen didn't say anything more; he turned his gaze back to the porthole.
The blue star slowly rotated beneath his feet.
The Pacific Ocean is turning into direct sunlight, and the surface of the sea reflects shimmering silver light.
He could see the coastline of Daxia, that familiar coastline, from Tianhai University to Yunbo Island, from the South China Sea defense line to the East China Sea fortress. For fifty years, humanity has guarded this line with blood and steel.
Now the line is just a very thin, very pale blue border, quietly set between the blue and gray.
The entire planet showed no signs of war, no artillery fire, no beast tides, and no city walls.
There is only a thin layer of atmosphere, like a transparent eggshell, which envelops all the blood and fire on this planet.
He unconsciously reached out and touched the porthole.
My fingertips touched the cold composite material, and the starlight from outside the window cast a pale white glow on my fingers through the glass.
Zhou Wangyue remained silent, and the cabin fell silent, with only the low-frequency hum of the psionic engine audible.
Three hours later.
Song Chen opened his eyes, and a line of text popped up on the display screen in front of the cabin.
"Arrived at the designated rendezvous point, 100,000 kilometers from the surface of Earth."
Outside the porthole, the blue planet had shrunk to the size of a soccer ball, the blue-green sphere suspended in the boundless darkness, its surface covered by a thin layer of white clouds.
From this distance, even the outline of the continent becomes blurred, leaving only a complete and lonely planet, floating there quietly, like a glowing blue marble.
The Star River made a slight adjustment to its attitude, and the starry sky outside the porthole slowly rotated.
Then Qi Shanhe stood up.
He pulled his hood back and scanned everyone in the cabin with his eyes. None of the 384 elite warriors in gray cloaks dared to look away from him.
"Before we begin, let me say a few words."
"If this four-nation coalition force is lost in the Arctic, humanity will lose one-third of its high-end combat capabilities, a loss that will take twenty years to recover."
As he spoke, his gaze lingered on Song Chen for a very brief moment before shifting away.
"Therefore, this battle must be fought, and it must be won."
"Our minimum goal is to make the Sirius Clan's expedition a waste, to prevent them from defeating the Ice Demon, and to make the Ice Demon continue to oppose them."
"If the land beasts don't cause chaos, humanity will never have a chance to counterattack."
"And the ultimate goal... is to use this civil war to severely damage the main force of the Sirius Clan and kill the Sirius King."
"With the death of the Sirius King, the land beasts are leaderless, and humanity has its first card to play in reclaiming the land."
After stating his minimum and maximum goals, he paused for two seconds, then continued.
"In this operation, there is no room for cowardice, no room for hesitation, and no room for preserving strength."
"Anyone who disobeys orders on the battlefield will be killed without waiting for the monsters to make a move."
He spoke the last four words with great emphasis, and everyone in the cabin felt a chill run down their spines.
Qi Shanhe pulled his hood back over his head and sat down.
The cabin was silent for a full five seconds, then the starry sky outside the porthole lit up briefly.
Song Chen turned his head and saw three S-class warships approaching from three different directions.
Each ship is at least 200 meters long, painted in the dark brown of the Eagle Nation, with a bald eagle with outstretched wings printed on the bow, and four diamond-shaped psionic engines mounted on each side of the hull.
The Bear Kingdom's silver-gray paint job and its hull being a bit longer than the Star River, with its surface covered in dense armor plates, made it look like a giant steel bear dug out of an ice field.
The ship features a deep blue paint job, a long and sleek hull, a cross-shaped array of propellers, and a row of portholes on each side of the bow illuminated with warm yellow lights.
Four S-class warships slowly adjusted their attitude in space, the faint light from their thrusters drawing extremely thin arcs in the darkness.
Finally, the bows of all four ships pointed towards the North Pole of Earth, with even spacing and synchronized speeds, flying in formation like four artificial satellites.
Below the porthole, the Arctic Circle of Earth slowly came into view.
Greenland's white ice caps reflect the dazzling sunlight, and the Arctic Ocean's floating ice resembles shattered white ceramic pieces scattered on a deep blue mirror.
Song Chen knew that a great battle was about to break out on that icy plain.
And they are suspended in space 100,000 kilometers away from this battlefield, like a fist about to smash down.
Song Chen looked outside for a long time.
A strange feeling suddenly arose in my heart.
He was a little afraid that Blue Star would fly away and abandon them.
This feeling is strange.
His home is on that planet. Every alien beast he has killed, every base city he has passed through, and every person he has met is on that planet.
But from this perspective, it is eerily quiet, like a sapphire casually placed on black velvet, which would roll into the depths of the universe with the slightest touch.
This idea makes no sense, but it's something that anyone who has stood in space and stared at the blue planet for a long time would have.
It was too quiet, too complete, too light.
There was no ground beneath my feet, no sky above my head, and the sound of the spaceship's engines was blocked by the bulkheads. I felt as if I was floating in an endless void, with only the blue sphere outside the porthole being the only real thing.
He unconsciously reached out and touched the porthole. The cold touch confirmed to him that he was still inside the spaceship.
But besides fearing it would fly away, Song Chen had another emotion.
In the far reaches of the night sky, countless stars densely filled the entire field of vision. Some stars were blue, some were red, and some were so far away that they were just tiny specks of light.
The Milky Way stretches across half the sky, its cold white band of light containing countless indistinct stars.
His eyes paused at the edge of the Milky Way for a moment, then moved to a more distant place.
Beyond the Milky Way, there are many more points of light. Those are not stars, but galaxies, another world millions of light-years away.
Song Chen is looking forward to it, really looking forward to it.
He hopes that one day he can go and see for himself, truly fly out of the solar system, and see the vast universe.
