Chapter 25 Return Flight
Chapter 25 Return Flight
The two hours following the forum's conclusion were the busiest time for booth B-237 since the forum opened.
When Su Chen and Zhou Ming rushed back from the multi-functional hall on the second floor, more than thirty people had already gathered in the open space at the end of the corridor—a rare sight in the entire B area.
Xiao Wu was demonstrating a one-click circling operation on an F2 workpiece flashed with firmware 2.0 at a height of three meters. The white camera circled along a smooth arc, its speed so uniform it seemed to be guided by an invisible track. The lens remained locked on the center point, and the image was projected in real time onto the screen of a laptop next to him—stable, smooth, and without the slightest shake.
Xiao Zhao was so busy at the booth that he barely had time to breathe. Visitors took turns picking up and looking at the three prototypes, and half of the promotional brochures had already been handed out.
Su Chen did not rush to greet them, but stood to the side and behind the crowd to observe.
The onlookers could be roughly divided into three categories: the largest group consisted of technical personnel from other exhibitors—peers are always the most perceptive audience members and the hardest to fool; the second group consisted of a few people wearing media name tags, one of whom Su Chen recognized—the reporter from Hardcore Innovation who had asked DJI's vice president at the forum whether they would release an entry-level model priced below 3,000 yuan; and the outermost group consisted of a few scattered people, dressed casually and without any identification badges.
Su Chen's gaze lingered on the outermost layer for a second.
A woman in a dark blue dress stood there quietly, her left hand holding an open leather notebook, her right hand holding a pen suspended above the paper. Her attention was entirely focused on the F2 aircraft circling overhead.
The same person I saw on the forum—around forty years old, with short, neat hair, and a focused and restrained expression.
She did indeed come.
Su Chen restrained his racing heartbeat.
Approaching someone directly to start a conversation is the dumbest thing to do. Investors hate being surrounded and pressured to sell to them. They need the product to speak for itself.
He stepped aside and walked to Xiao Wu's side, lowering his voice to instruct, "The next demonstration will be automatic return. Fly the machine to the other end of the passage, then disconnect the remote control signal and see if it can find its way back on its own."
Xiao Wu immediately understood.
He pushed the joystick to make the F2 fly towards the other end of the aisle, hovering about 25 meters away from the booth. Then he pressed a button on the remote control panel—the signal loss simulation function added in firmware 2.0.
The drone remained stationary in the air for about one and a half seconds.
Then it automatically turned its nose and returned to the booth along a gentle curve, maintaining a constant altitude and speed, and finally landed steadily within half a meter of the takeoff point.
It moved without any hesitation or swaying, like a well-trained homing pigeon.
A murmur of admiration erupted from the onlookers.
"Did it automatically reconnect after the connection was lost?"
"A machine that costs less than two thousand yuan has this function?"
Su Chen glanced at the outer edge of the crowd out of the corner of his eye.
The woman in the dark blue dress finally picked up her pen—the instant the F2 completed its automatic landing, she quickly jotted down a few lines in her notebook.
After finishing writing, she looked up, no longer staring at the drone, but scanning the crowd.
She's looking for someone. She's looking for the person in charge of this booth.
Su Chen did not go to meet him.
He turned and walked to the other side of the booth, closer to the reporter from Hardcore Innovation.
"Hello, are you a teacher from Hardcore Innovation?" He extended his hand proactively. "Su Chen, Hongyuan Intelligent. I just spoke on the forum."
"I remember you!" The young reporter grabbed his hand. "Li Hao, from Hardcore Drone Channel. Your idea about penetrating the lower-tier commercial market is quite novel. I made a special trip to see your products—to be honest, the flight control system is truly beyond my expectations."
"Thank you for your attention." Su Chen pointed to the F2 that had just completed its return landing. "If it's convenient, we can provide a test prototype for you to take home and test at your leisure."
Li Hao was clearly surprised by the other party's promptness. After a moment of stunned silence, he took the brand-new F2 working version that Su Chen handed him from under the table.
"You don't need to pay it back?"
"No need. Just give an objective evaluation, both the good and the bad. We are confident in our product."
"Okay, I'll finish the draft as soon as I get back." Li Hao put the prototype into his backpack, asked a few more technical questions, and then left.
Su Chen watched him walk out of the passage, then quietly turned back—
The woman in the dark blue dress is gone.
He didn't notice when it disappeared.
A hint of regret crossed her mind, but it was quickly overshadowed by reason. There was still a whole day left in the exhibition, and besides, the fact that she had made a special trip to the most secluded corner of Section B to watch the entire demonstration meant that her interest had been piqued.
The product has already said what he needed to say.
All that's left is to patiently wait for the right opportunity.
Before the exhibition closed at 5 p.m., a dozen or so more visitors arrived. Su Chen handed out business cards to each of them and briefly introduced the products and company. Two of them, wearing media badges—a drone forum editor and a tech blogger—indicated that they would write a review of the exhibition mentioning Hongyuan.
Summary of the first day's achievements: The forum speeches attracted attention, three media professionals took business cards, Hardcore Innovation took away a test drone, and about thirty industry professionals witnessed the F2's flight performance.
And—the woman in the dark blue dress took notes after watching the automatic return-to-home demonstration.
For a six-square-meter, unnamed booth, this has far exceeded expectations.
