Chapter 74 Superman vs. Justice League
As the explosion spread, the entire underground cave became unstable. With Joey hanging from its beak, the raven flapped its magical wings, sweeping Old Thomas, who was already stunned by the aftershocks, out of the collapsing underground.
"No, we can't leave yet! The thing inside that fragment is about to seep into this universe!"
Joey felt as if he had almost shattered into countless pieces on the spot like a fragile terracotta figurine under the impact of that energy wave, but the shock allowed him to see many things.
For example, where did this body come from, why did it return here, and the nature of this universe and other universes.
Even under such intense pain, he kept a close eye on the cosmic fragment that Barbatos had left behind before he departed.
There's no other reason than that these fragments were once real universes that were rapidly heading towards destruction. One fragment hadn't even completely perished yet; it still contained the final moments of the apocalypse.
It also contains the core of that universe—Superman.
It is no exaggeration to say that this special Kryptonian is the true anchor, and the vast majority of beings in the DC universe rely on his power.
If Superman were to be permanently killed, it would essentially be the end of the world for this universe.
If a universe is on the verge of destruction, but its superhuman still exists, then there is only one explanation, a simple conclusion that can be deduced with almost no thought.
That "Superman" did all of this himself.
The explosion just now released the matter from the cosmic debris back into Joey's universe, and the underground cavern that had been empty after Barbatos' departure was once again filled with a huge metal object.
This is a huge spindle-shaped metal structure, surrounded by a ring-shaped power supply circuit. Its massive size completely fills the cave, effectively preventing it from collapsing.
A space station appeared right in front of Joey and Raven.
This is a fragment from the cosmic debris left behind by Barbatos, the Justice League Watchtower of that universe.
Justice League Watchtower is a space station whose main body is made of massive metal and whose core integrates the most advanced technologies from nearly ten planets.
It was created by many members of the Justice League.
It includes Cyborg and Batman from Earth, Diana from Themyscira, Superman from Krypton, Green Lantern from Oa, Hawkgirl from Cenagon, Martian Manhunter, and even Orion and Big Bada from the New Genesis and Apokolips.
This makes the Watchtower not only a symbol of the Justice League's powerful strength, but also a testament to the unity it represents.
Heroes from all corners of the universe have come together under the call of a shared ideal of justice and a perfect moral exemplar to protect their Earth and universe from disaster and nightmares.
Until one day, the perfect moral exemplar who had united them became their disaster and nightmare.
Despite the watchtower's excellent soundproofing, the intense fighting noises inside still reached Joey's ears.
That was the sound of explosives exploding, and the sound of Diana's Vulcan sword colliding with the Kryptonian's heat vision.
Kryptonian, Wonder Woman, Batman.
Even without super hearing, an ordinary person could sense that something was wrong with this watchtower. There was a pair of bloodstained, withered wings stuck to the outer solar panels of the space station. Their owner was nowhere to be found. They were, or rather, were once the wings of Hawkgirl.
On the inner wall of the space station, inside the metal outer ring, is a green lantern ring with only one black finger remaining. This is the green lantern ring of John Stewart, the Green Lantern.
In the distance, a pool of charred mud was falling from the sky as it escaped the low-gravity environment; it was the remains of a Martian hunter who feared fire.
The battle inside the space station is reaching its climax. The collision between the Sword of Vulcan and the fragments of the Shield of Zeus caused a massive explosion throughout the entire space station. A red cloak, amidst the enormous impact, pierced through layers of barriers and crashed outside the cavern.
Following closely behind this figure was Wonder Woman, the Wonder Woman from that fragmented universe, who wielded the Sword of Vulcan and slashed at the fallen Superman.
Upon seeing this, the raven quickly blurred itself and the two people it carried with it, and ignoring Joey's objections, flapped its wings and flew swiftly through the rock layers towards the surface.
She now only retains half of her essence, barely surviving in the material dimension, with Batman and Superman in her hands, and an unconscious old bat. If she continues to cause trouble, she might have a heart attack on the spot.
Another superman, with his mortal body, recklessly charged forward, throwing a punch to clash head-on with a being like Barbatos. He nearly shattered into thousands of pieces of flesh and blood; it was a miracle he wasn't wiped out on the spot.
Whatever is happening down there now is beyond the control of the three of us.
The story of this space station from another universe begins with Barbatos's duties.
As it was mentioned before, there exists an endless multiverse in the sea of possibilities, and it is responsible for overseeing and devouring precisely the worst part of it.
What happened in that fragment of the universe it left behind wasn't even bad on a multidimensional scale; it was merely an ordinary possibility.
The possibility is that one day, the "Superman" of that universe decides to try and see if he can single-handedly destroy the entire Justice League.
It turns out he really could.
When the other members of the Justice League received an urgent communication from Superman around the world, the other six members of the Seven Giants responded and rushed to the Watchtower.
But in the end, only Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, who had been teleported in, sat alone at the Justice Round Table, because almost no one in the Justice League, except The Flash, would be late.
Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Superman, who initiated the emergency meeting, were all tied up with other matters and unable to get away, which made the two people present sense a hint of conspiracy.
Batman and Wonder Woman both frowned, and even the usually composed Barry Allen, who was slurping loudly with his Coke straw, couldn't dispel their worries.
Who's pulling the strings behind the scenes this time? Is it Lex Luthor? Wanda Savage? Or perhaps Brainiac?
Their doubts were quickly dispelled when Superman, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl arrived at the meeting place at the Watchtower.
To be precise, Superman arrived at the conference room with the deceased Green Lantern and "half" of Hawkgirl.
Batman looked at Green Lantern's hand, where the ring had been, and saw that it had completely disappeared. Judging from Green Lantern's extremely ferocious expression, it was not hard to guess that he had died of asphyxiation.
Blood was streaming from both of Hawkgirl's shoulders, her wings had been ripped off, and she was unconscious from the intense pain.
Wonder Woman stepped forward to take her from Superman and carry her to the medical room, but the unconscious Hawkgirl suddenly opened her eyes. She threw a punch at Superman, who was carrying her, and yelled at the unsuspecting Wonder Woman:
"It was Superman! Superman murdered Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter!"
"What?!"
Hawkgirl's scream left Wonder Woman at a loss. She had considered countless possibilities, but this was the only outcome she hadn't anticipated. Her first thought was to excuse Superman:
"Tell me what's going on, Clark! Has someone mind-controlled Hawkgirl?!"
"No, Diana, no one is mind-controlled, including me."
Suspended high in the air, Superman tossed Hawkgirl, who was convulsing in excruciating pain from resisting, to the ground as if she were a piece of trash, then calmly replied:
"Now it's your turn."
The Flash sprinted over before Hawkgirl even landed, leaping high to try and catch her, but this played right into Superman's hands. Speedsters are far more vulnerable in the air than when they're on solid ground, especially someone as clueless as Barry Allen.
Superman sliced the Flash in two along with Hawkgirl with a single heat blast.
It all happened so fast that Diana had no time to react other than grief: "No!"
With the Flash's death, the entire universe began to rapidly disintegrate from a place unnoticed by those present, until only one fragment remained, centered around Superman.
The red light in Superman's eyes faded, and he looked at the grief-stricken Wonder Woman: "You're next, Diana."
Diana was forced to draw her sword and confront Superman: "Clark, what happened to make you like this? Was it Lex Luthor's new kryptonite that affected you? Or was it the brainwashing program from Apokolips?"
"Nothing happened, Diana."
Superman's face was as serious and solemn as ever, but his deep blue eyes no longer held a gentle gaze; instead, they were as calm as still water.
"I just don't want to play with you guys anymore."
Batman threw several explosive batarangs containing kryptonite powder at Superman, but they were all intercepted by his heat vision.
"Stop playing these boring little games, Bruce."
The only reason you were able to beat me before was because I liked you. I thought you, this poor orphan, deserved to experience some happiness and joy, like the thrill of defeating the strongest person like me.
Superman's tone remained calm, but Batman could sense the mockery in his words. The deeper the bond he had formed with Superman through their shared past, the more profound the hurt these blunt words caused him.
Wonder Woman stepped forward, sword in hand, and by striking her wristband, unleashed a massive shockwave powerful enough to uproot a Kryptonian: "Run, Bruce!"
While Wonder Woman was engaged with Superman, Batman tacitly began to withdraw from the battlefield. This was not out of cowardice, but rather a temporary retreat. He had already tried, but he could not reconnect to the communication system, nor could he reactivate the portal at the Justice League Watchtower.
Unable to return to Gotham's Batcave at this moment, he could only go to several secret storage rooms in the Watchtower to retrieve some inventory.
But his trust in his old friend had made him complacent, and he had hidden many of the weapons designed to target Superman inside the watchtower in the End Bat Cave.
A kryptonite spear and a red sunray pistol—that was all he could find.
Batman, carrying these god-killing weapons, raced back to the battlefield. He saw a large hole in the space station, but the space outside the hole was not the outer space he had expected.
The microcomputer inside the suit analyzed the data and indicated that they were inside Earth's atmosphere. Batman didn't bother to investigate why the watchtower, which should have been in space, was here.
He had already spotted Wonder Woman fighting Clark outside, so he raised his hand and fired a shot at the two of them: "Diana!"
The beam radiation from the red sun ray gun slowed Superman's movements, and Wonder Woman finally managed to slash Superman's chest with her sword.
He hurled his kryptonite spear far away, towards Wonder Woman, who was temporarily suppressing Superman: "Catch!"
Even under such circumstances, Batman and Wonder Woman still have no intention of completely killing Superman.
If Wonder Woman gets her hands on the Kryptonite spear, and with the added power of her Red Sunbeam Gun, subduing Clark won't be difficult.
But all the possibilities Batman envisioned shattered in the next 0.5 seconds.
Superman, who was shot by the red sun ray, was only slightly dazed before regaining his ability to move.
He punched Wonder Woman, who was distracted by the Kryptonite spear, and then grabbed her right hand that was holding the sword. With a swift and merciless push, he sent the blade of the Vulcan Sword into Wonder Woman's throat.
"No!"
At this moment, Batman's world has finally fallen apart completely.
Wonder Woman coughed up blood, her trachea and blood vessels completely severed, and she knelt helplessly before Superman, her life slowly being stripped away from her once fiercely fighting eyes.
Superman leaped over Wonder Woman's corpse and instantly appeared before Batman, only to be met not with a fierce attack, but with an angry and bewildered question:
"Why? Clark? I loved you, everyone in the Justice League loved you! Why?!"
"We worked together to thwart Lex Luthor's plot, defeat Brainiac, save Metropolis from Doomsday's attack, and repel the Apokolips army. You even secretly did Tim's math homework once! Was all of that a lie?"
Superman simply nodded indifferently in the face of this barrage of questions: "Of course it's all true."
"Because all of this is real, that's why I survived, while you missed your chance to kill me."

Clark Kent looked at Batman in front of him, his eyes flashing with memories of their past interactions, but they only made him feel bored.
He was finally freed from his dull and tedious old life, and for that reason, he didn't mind saying a few more words to this old friend:
"It's like raising a whole colony of ants in an terrarium. In the early days, you're really interested in them. You take good care of them, watch some of the interesting individuals, and you even give them names."
But for some reason, after an ordinary day, this tank of ants no longer arouses your interest in the slightest.
Let's end this, Bruce, in case you don't know—I'm determined to kill everyone on Earth, including you all.
This seems to have transported me to a completely new universe.
Superman raised his right hand high towards Batman, ready to deliver a chop to the neck and decapitate him.
"Don't worry about me, Bruce, I can raise a new colony of ants in this universe."
